Security Discovery Co-Founder Launches Service to Protect and Support Older People

Technology can often be considered both a gift and a curse for a growing population of older people. It can enhance the way we communicate with our friends, family, and loved ones. Technology makes it easy to share information, schedule a doctor’s appointment, manage bills and finances, play games, and provide much needed entertainment. Older adults have real concerns about technology that goes far beyond a lack of technical knowledge. Security and privacy threats for older people can have devastating effects on their personal data, financial security, and independent way of life.

The same technology that allows you to use your device or computer to stay in contact also allows criminals on the other side of the world to call you with a local phone number and try to scam you. According to the FBI millions of older Americans are victims of some type of financial fraud or confidence scheme each year. Criminals target their older victims directly via computer, phone, physical mail, and even use TV and radio. These victims often don’t report fraud because they don’t know how, they are ashamed or embarrassed at having been scammed, or sadly they have no one to turn to. We want to change this and provide affordable help to those who need it the most.

I had this idea for the last few years to create a service that is purpose driven and helps the most vulnerable among us. After months of research and planning I am happy to announce the launch of Zepy.io. Helping older people is something I believe in and something I am passionate about. Zepy aims to be a real world firewall or layer of protection for users that combines real people with technology on the backend and offers an affordable no nonsense solution to a wide range of problems users may face.

There are some volunteer groups and community level services that offer limited help for older people, but sadly they often don’t have the resources to keep up with the growing demand. They also may not have the technical or security expertise to advise or help with more complex problems. We want to fill that gap and give older people a cost effective solution that anyone can afford.

Zepy focuses on 6 core areas that include human assisted fraud and scam protection, technical support, health and wellness assistance, social connections, and personal data protection. We want to help our users maintain their independent lifestyles and enjoy all of the positive benefits that technology can provide them.

“For years I have helped identify data breaches and protect the data of millions of people around the world, now I want to use my knowledge and experience to help the most vulnerable among us”. – Jeremiah Fowler founder of Zepy.io

No one should ever feel alone or like they have nowhere to turn for honest answers, support, or identifying a potential scam. Sadly, more than one-third of older adults feel lonely, and nearly one-fourth of people aged 65 and older are considered to be socially isolated according to a report published by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The pandemic and quarantine measures have only made this problem far worse for a group of people that was already struggling. People need a human connection now more than ever before and Zepy.io looks to provide real support.

In today’s world many companies view customer support as an automated “ChatBot”, an infinite loop of support articles, or a ticketing system that feels like writing letters to Santa (often with the same reply ratio). We want to take a different approach and if that includes helping a user configure their video chat software for a telehealth appointment and a conversation about a family chocolate chip cookie recipe, then we would welcome that call. What many of us might consider a small unimportant question could be a real barrier or important problem to another person that prevents them from having access or using their device.

Zepy has a mission to serve as a companion and provide a relationship of trust that gives users peace of mind that they are never alone and that no question is too small or unimportant. Zepy is a purpose driven service that makes our users’ lives easier, safer, and supports their independent lifestyle. Currently Zepy is only available in The United States and Canada.
